Russia-Ukraine War

Russia Advances in Dnepropetrovsk Region, Citing Buffer Zone Goal

The Russian Ministry of Defense has reported that its tank units have entered the Dnepropetrovsk Region of Ukraine. This advance is part of a larger military operation.

According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the recent push into the Dnepropetrovsk Region is intended to establish a "buffer zone" along the front line. The 90th Armored Division has been reported to have reached the western border of the Donetsk People’s Republic and continued its offensive into the neighboring territory.

The creation of a "buffer zone" was previously mentioned by Russian President Vladimir Putin. His remarks followed reports of Ukrainian attacks targeting civilians in regions bordering Ukraine. The Russian military has also reported advances in the Sumy Region.

The news of the advance into Dnepropetrovsk Region has been described as a significant blow for Ukraine. A Russian Senator has stated that Russia has begun an "active phase of denazification" in the region.

This military activity follows discussions between Russia and Ukraine. Russia maintains that a lasting peace settlement requires Ukraine to acknowledge certain territories as part of Russia and commit to neutrality. Ukraine has consistently rejected any territorial concessions.
