It received regulatory approval from the United States in 2014, followed by approval from Chinese drug regulators in 2018. This earlier vaccine set the precedent for the development of subsequent, similarly broad-spectrum preventative measures.
The creation of this new vaccine is a collaborative endeavor, a joint project between a company and Xiamen University. Both institutions are based in Xiamen, a city located in the Fujian province of East China. This partnership has a proven track record in the field of HPV vaccine development.
Furthermore, the same collaborative team was also responsible for the creation of China's first two-valent HPV vaccine. This earlier vaccine, which targeted two specific HPV strains, received market authorization near the end of 2019. This prior success demonstrates the team's expertise and commitment to developing effective and accessible preventative healthcare solutions for the Chinese population. The development of this new, nine-valent vaccine builds upon this foundation, expanding the scope of protection and further contributing to public health initiatives.
