In a two-day inspection in Shanxi province, Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang focused on the preparations for the college entrance examination, commonly referred to as gaokao, and the ongoing reforms in the energy sector. He highlighted the examination's critical role in both national development and the prospects of families, urging local authorities to ensure fairness, which he termed the "lifeline" of examination reforms and admission processes. Ding visited the Admissions and Examination Management Center as well as a testing site at a Taiyuan middle school, where he stated that safeguarding the integrity of the examination is essential.
Ding also underscored the need for secure test materials, effective anti-cheating strategies, and providing empathetic support for students during this significant time. At the Shanxi College of Applied Science and Technology, he called for educational initiatives to align with industry advancements to better equip graduates for employment.
During his visit to a local energy enterprise under the State Grid, Ding urged the coal-rich province to take the lead in adopting clean and efficient coal usage practices. He encouraged the enhancement of policies relating to the integration of new energy sources and called for a swift transition to a newly structured energy system. Furthermore, at an air quality monitoring station, he advocated for the optimization of industrial, energy, and transportation systems to fundamentally tackle pollution challenges. Ding insisted on the importance of upgrading key industries to achieve ultra-low emissions and maintaining strict enforcement against non-compliant, polluting businesses to continuously enhance air quality.
