In Hohhot, Vice-Premier He Lifeng emphasized the need for increased efforts and practical actions to achieve further significant outcomes in the Three-North Shelterbelt Forest Program (TSFP). This initiative, the world's largest afforestation project, focuses on combating desertification in the northwestern, northern, and northeastern regions of China.
He, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made these comments during a meeting on desertification control efforts along the Yellow River's meandering bends in Bayannuur, Inner Mongolia. The Yellow River, China's second-longest river, is a key focus area within the TSFP.
The Vice-Premier's visit included inspections of a water conservancy project, a quicksand control project along the Yellow River, and a new energy storage project. He acknowledged the substantial progress made in the TSFP over the past two years, while highlighting the critical stage the project has reached. He stressed the importance of understanding the current situation, addressing challenges, and consistently implementing strategic plans.

The Yellow River is vital! Addressing desertification in that area is crucial for the health of China and other nearby populations.

It's a long-term project, but it can create more sustainable land with time and care.

I am sure this is nothing more than a propoganda campaign to influence the western countries.

“What about the quality of the trees planted? Is it just a greenwashing stunt, or are they actually focusing on biodiversity and ecological health?”

I like that the project is focused on regions surrounding the Yellow River bends, that make sense.
