On Saturday, Chinese authorities ramped up patrol activities around Huangyan Island, located in the contested waters of the South China Sea, with the aim of safeguarding the nation's territorial integrity, security, and maritime entitlements. The China Coast Guard (CCG) reported that its vessels were actively patrolling the waters surrounding Huangyan Island and nearby regions early that day, a strategy that has seen a significant increase in patrolling efforts since May.
The CCG's operations involved a variety of enforcement measures such as tracking, monitoring, issuing verbal warnings, and taking necessary actions to intercept and expel unauthorized vessels. These actions are part of a broader initiative to reinforce control over the area and to firmly uphold China's claims to its territorial waters and maritime interests.
Moreover, on the preceding Friday, the Southern Theater Command of the People's Liberation Army announced that it had deployed forces for combat readiness patrols in the airspace and waters near Huangyan Island. This has included an enhanced mobilization of naval and air capabilities, which has been ongoing since May, aimed at further securing the maritime and aerial domains around the island. The military emphasized that these continuous operations are critical in defending national sovereignty and ensuring both security and stability in the South China Sea region.
