The 17th edition of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA 2025) kicked off in Malaysia on May 20, 2025, showcasing various top aviation products from China, notably the J-10CE and FC-31 fighter jets. The event is drawing attention from defense industry representatives globally who are eager to enhance their presence within the Asian defense market. The China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation (CATIC) prominently displayed models of these advanced aircraft, attracting significant interest from attendees.
Recently, the J-10CE fighter jet has gained recognition due to its recent success in actual combat situations, as noted by various media outlets. Fu Qianshao, a military affairs expert, emphasized the J-10CE's combat readiness, equipped with advanced avionics and the PL-15E missile, which provides it with impressive capabilities for beyond-visual-range engagements. CATIC's showcase of the J-10CE suggests China's commitment to marketing this top-tier fighter jet to potential international customers, many of whom may be considering upgrades to their air fleets.
In addition to the established fourth-generation J-10 fighter jet, China is presenting the fifth-generation FC-31, indicating a strategic push to expand its defense products in the global market. Wang Ya'nan, chief editor at Aerospace Knowledge magazine, noted that the widespread deployment of the J-10 series within the Chinese military enhances its reliability and appeal to foreign buyers. The Chinese exhibition booth also featured various aircraft, including the Y-20 and Y-9 transport planes, as well as the Z-10 and Z-9 helicopters, showcasing a full spectrum of aviation capabilities.
Fu remarked that China's diverse portfolio of military aircraft demonstrates the country's commitment to developing its aviation industry comprehensively, allowing potential international clients to select products tailored to their specific needs. The LIMA 2025 exhibition, scheduled to continue until Saturday, boasts a robust lineup of 860 exhibitors and 140 delegates from 46 nations, including a wide range of military and government officials.
