A vehicle was destroyed in Kyiv, Ukraine, on Sunday, May 25, 2025, as a result of a Russian missile attack.
On the same day, US President Donald Trump voiced criticism of both the Russian and Ukrainian leaders following the latest attacks. Multiple media outlets reported on his statements.
Speaking to reporters before departing from Morristown, New Jersey, Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with the actions of the Russian leader. This followed a conversation with the Russian leader the previous Monday, during which Trump had attempted to broker a 30-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.
Trump was quoted as saying that he was unhappy with Putin's actions, particularly the launching of rockets into cities, resulting in casualties. He noted his past positive relationship with Putin but expressed his disapproval of the current situation.
The US leader also mentioned that the attacks occurred while negotiations were ongoing. The Kyiv authorities reported at least twelve fatalities, including children, and numerous injuries across Ukraine due to a combined missile and drone attack. Meanwhile, Russia claimed its air defense units had intercepted and destroyed a large number of Ukrainian drones.
Later, Trump posted on Truth Social, stating that Putin had "gone absolutely CRAZY!" The Associated Press noted that the US president had delivered some of his strongest criticism yet against the Russian leader. In the same post, Trump also criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, stating that Zelensky's rhetoric was detrimental to his country.
