Dubai Humanitarian and the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Centre) formalized a significant partnership in Siem Reap, Cambodia, through the signing of a Letter of Intent. This agreement represents a major step forward in enhancing collaborative humanitarian efforts throughout Southeast Asia.
The core of the agreement establishes a framework for strategic cooperation between the two organizations. Their shared goal is to strengthen emergency preparedness and response capabilities within ASEAN Member States, particularly in the face of natural disasters and other humanitarian crises. The partnership underscores a mutual dedication to developing resilient, sustainable, and adaptable disaster relief systems in a region frequently impacted by such events.
The Letter of Intent outlines a collaborative approach centered on two key areas. The first focuses on Humanitarian Logistics and Crisis Relief Solutions. This involves facilitating coordinated relief operations, exploring the loan of essential relief items, and supporting the AHA Centre’s Disaster Emergency Logistics System for ASEAN (DELSA). Furthermore, the partnership aims to foster joint innovation in the humanitarian supply chain, improving the efficiency and sustainability of emergency responses.
The second pillar emphasizes Knowledge Sharing and Outreach. Dubai Humanitarian and the AHA Centre will collaborate to exchange best practices in sustainability, carbon reduction, and operational excellence. The agreement also includes co-hosted training programs and symposiums, designed to enhance local response capabilities and facilitate knowledge transfer across both public and private sectors. Joint visibility efforts, such as public awareness campaigns and participation in regional humanitarian events, will be undertaken to promote collaboration for a Global Safety Net.
