The rugby league world is anticipating a major weekend in Brisbane. The National Rugby League's (NRL) Magic Round and Game I of the Women's State of Origin series will be held over four days, with all games taking place at Lang Park.
The NRL Magic Round is an annual event where the NRL shifts to Brisbane for a weekend, playing every match of the round at a single venue. This concept, which began in 2019, was inspired by the Super League's Magic Weekend in the United Kingdom. The event was paused in 2020 due to COVID-19 but has since returned.
The 2024 Magic Round weekend also marks the beginning of the Women's State of Origin series. Last year's series opener was the first Women's State of Origin match at Lang Park.
This year's Magic Round weekend will run from Thursday, May 1 to Sunday, May 4. The Women's State of Origin series will kick off the weekend on Thursday. All NRL matches will be played from Friday, May 2, to Sunday, May 4. The Manly Sea Eagles will not participate in Magic Round due to a bye.
Game I of the Women's State of Origin series will be played on Thursday, May 1, at 7:45 pm.
The Nine Network will broadcast Game I of the Women's State of Origin on its free-to-air Channel Nine, and streamed on its Nine Now app. ABC Sport will provide a live blog for every match of the Women's State of Origin.
