As of Wednesday, a survey by Jiji Press indicates that 315 individuals are preparing to participate in the upcoming summer election for the House of Councilors. This election will determine the composition of the upper chamber of parliament.
A key point of interest in this election will be whether Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba's ruling coalition can achieve a majority in the Upper House. This would require them to secure 125 seats, including those not contested in the upcoming election.
The Liberal Democratic Party, the leading party within the ruling coalition, has already selected candidates for 32 single-seat constituencies. These constituencies each have one seat available. Conversely, the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan and other opposition parties have yet to make significant progress in coordinating their candidate selections.

Is anyone else concerned about the lack of transparency in how candidates are selected?

The LDP has a proven track record, and I believe they can push through necessary reforms if they secure the majority.

A strong majority can bring much-needed changes to the Upper House. Here’s hoping for a successful election!

Relying on the ruling coalition to gain a majority is a fool's errand. They haven’t delivered on their promises before.

I appreciate that the Liberal Democratic Party is quick to nominate their candidates. It shows commitment to the electoral process.
