A woman in her 30s was declared dead at the scene following a skydiving accident. Durham Police have confirmed that the death is not considered suspicious.
Emergency services responded to the incident in Shotton Colliery, near Peterlee, County Durham, on Sunday morning. Authorities have stated that a file will be prepared for the coroner.
The North East Ambulance Service reported receiving a call regarding the incident at Shotton Colliery on April 27th at 10:17 am. They dispatched one ambulance crew and a specialist paramedic to the scene.
This marks the third fatal skydiving incident connected to the Peterlee area since 2016. In April 2024, Sam Cornwell died when his parachute malfunctioned during a jump at the South West Industrial Estate. The 46-year-old was employed as a videographer for Sky-High Skydiving Peterlee.
In September 2016, Pamela Gower, aged 49 and from Hebburn, died during a charity skydive at the Peterlee Parachute Centre.
