Married Teacher Accused of Affair with Student Claims He 'Cheated' on Her

Christina Formella, a married teacher, is currently at the center of a scandal involving a former student, a 15-year-old boy, with whom she allegedly had a sexual relationship. Formella, 30, is charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse and has entered a not guilty plea. The serious allegations emerged during tutoring sessions she conducted before school hours, while she also served as the student’s football coach at Downers Grove South High School in Chicago.

In an unconventional memoir, Formella reflects on her troubled relationship with the student, shockingly accusing him of "cheating" on her. Diary entries uncovered on her phone aimed to cast the teenager not just as the instigator of their troubled affair, but also as a factor in the breakdown of her marriage. Formella expressed her anger in one entry, exclaiming that he had been dishonest and had ultimately betrayed her, despite her constant reminders that their relationship should never have started.

Formella’s assertions become increasingly perplexing as she continues to blame the young boy for their circumstances. She claims that she felt manipulated and gaslighted into believing their relationship was acceptable. Initially, when questioned by law enforcement, she denied any inappropriate conduct, suggesting that her looks and good intentions led to her being targeted. However, her narrative shifted as she accused the teenager of stalking and intrusive behavior.

During her interviews, Formella attempted to characterize the boy as overly attached to her, even going so far as to state that he had engaged in deceitful behavior regarding her phone. Reports indicate that she claimed her husband was aware of their interaction, further complicating the situation. Following the discovery of incriminating messages by the boy's mother in March 2023, Formella was arrested, revealing her chaotic mindset during the encounter as captured by police bodycam footage.
