The abduction of children is a parent's worst fear, yet it is the daily reality for thousands of Ukrainian families. Since Russia's invasion, nearly 20,000 Ukrainian children have been identified as forcibly taken into Russia. The actual number is likely much higher, with Russia claiming to have transferred over 700,000 children. These are not mere statistics; they are children, separated from their families and seized by a hostile state, often given new identities. This is happening in Europe today.
to erase Ukrainian identity from the next generation. This is a war on childhood, family, and a nation's future.
I visited a Save Ukraine Hope and Healing Centre in Irpin, where I met two teenagers rescued from Russia. Their stories revealed the true cost of the conflict. Many of these stolen children are vulnerable, orphaned, or separated from their families, isolated, and often voiceless. One boy recounted being separated from his family and sent to a Russian military academy. He, like many, faced indoctrination and the choice of remaining stateless or accepting Russian nationality. Another, a 17-year-old girl, was visibly traumatized by her experience, recounting being woken in the night by military men. Hearing their stories and understanding that thousands more are still held in Russia, we must help bring them home.
These young people, now back in Ukraine and receiving support, are beginning to rebuild their lives. Ukraine is not asking for charity but for solidarity. They are asking us to stand firm in actions, including supporting organizations like Save Ukraine. Britain has been a steadfast friend to Ukraine, and we must go further. This means funding humanitarian support, applying diplomatic pressure on Russia, and supporting those working to bring these children home. The fight for Ukraine is a fight for freedom, family, and the sanctity of childhood. I left Ukraine with a renewed determination. These children need us now.

These are not just statistics; they are lives affected by war. We need to keep raising awareness.

Every child taken from their family represents a tragedy. We can’t close our eyes to this injustice.

Why should other nations bailout Ukraine? They need to handle their own issues first.

This kind of rhetoric only deepens divides instead of fostering understanding between nations.

“Why should we take action against Russia? Every country has its own interests in wartime decisions.”

It’s hard to take this seriously when the sources of information seem biased.
