A Platform for Asian Collaboration on Climate Action

Shanghai Climate Week 2025 launched on April 21 at Shanghai Expo Culture Park, focusing on promoting international cooperation and sustainable approaches to combat climate change. The event has gathered over 100 representatives from diverse sectors including government, academia, business, and international organizations, all dedicated to addressing the pressing issue of climate change.

Zou Rong, who co-directs the Shanghai Climate Week Executive Committee, refers to the initiative as the potential "Asian symbol" for climate action, akin to similar climate weeks held in cities like London, New York, and Paris. He envisions the Shanghai event as a unique opportunity for Asia to showcase China's valuable experiences and foster the development of innovative and sustainable productive forces.

Spring," a youth orchestra performance emphasized the younger generation's dedication to building a sustainable future. Key speakers, such as Sun Jianping and Xiao Lin, underscored the importance of collaborative efforts to address global climate challenges. He Kebin from Tsinghua University highlighted the event's commitment to scientific rigor, inclusive participation, and a global outlook. Duncan Logan, co-founder of San Francisco Climate Week, expressed hope for mutual learning and advancement in worldwide climate action initiatives.

In his keynote address, Tu Guangshao discussed the role of "green finance" in promoting low-carbon economies, illustrating how financial innovations can channel investment into sustainable projects that facilitate industrial transformation and economic growth. Several significant initiatives were unveiled, including preparations for forming the China SME Green and Low-Carbon Work Committee, aimed at guiding small and medium-sized enterprises in adopting green technologies for sustainable development.

Plans for the Global Climate Change Youth Congress were also announced, highlighting the importance of involving the youth in climate governance. A student representative, Hu Haoran, presented a "Youth Climate Action Declaration," reflecting the concerns of young people regarding climate change and their commitment to a sustainable future.

Additionally, the launch of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Alliance, spearheaded by the World Wildlife Fund, aims to bring together various stakeholders in the industrial chain to advance the development and application of green fuels. Over the week, the event included more than 60 programs, encompassing forums, technology exhibitions, and public activities, creating a space for cross-sector dialogue among experts in policy, technology, education, art, and public welfare to develop comprehensive solutions to climate issues.
