In Nanjing, China, a significant milestone was reached as 81 individuals received the country's first long-term care specialist certificates. This event, held in Nantong city, Jiangsu province, signifies the formal establishment of this new profession. The initiative aims to tackle the increasing demands of an aging population and the societal challenges associated with chronic illnesses and disabilities.
The primary goal of these long-term care specialists is to ease the strain on families who are caring for disabled relatives. According to Li Tao, deputy director of the National Healthcare Security Administration, the aging population has generated a substantial need for long-term care services. He anticipates that this profession will improve service quality, stimulate innovation within the health and wellness sectors, and ultimately increase public satisfaction.
Elementary (Level 5), Intermediate (Level 4), and Advanced (Level 3). The assessment process includes both written examinations and practical simulations to evaluate the candidates' knowledge and practical skills. The initial examination in Jiangsu saw an 81 percent pass rate among the 100 candidates, with participants ranging in age from 20 to over 60.
Lu Yayun, a 51-year-old former child care worker, expressed her enthusiasm, stating that the certificate validates her expertise and boosts her confidence in her career. She emphasized her commitment to providing compassionate care to seniors and serving families with professionalism and dedication.
To ensure standardized evaluations, Jiangsu has implemented a comprehensive regulatory framework. This framework includes 21 documents that address various aspects of the program, including exam administration and certification management.

How will this scheme affect existing care providers who don’t have these certificates? Are they losing their jobs?

I'm skeptical about 'stimulating innovation' in healthcare. Usually, it just translates into more profit-driven practices.
