Ed Miliband, the Energy Secretary, is considering a proposal to implement zonal pricing for electricity, which would result in different electricity costs across the UK. A poll revealed that a majority of respondents oppose the move. The Fairer Energy Future campaign, which includes renewable energy investors and trade bodies, has warned the Chancellor that the policy could be detrimental. Research indicates that zonal pricing could potentially increase consumer costs significantly. However, some energy suppliers, such as Octopus Energy, believe the system could lead to savings for consumers. Ovo Energy and Citizens Advice also support the scheme.
