Edwin Tong, the Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, acknowledged that the Workers' Party candidate, Yee Jenn Jong, is a highly experienced campaigner. However, Tong emphasized the diverse experience his People's Action Party (PAP) team brings to the upcoming election in East Coast GRC, which he anticipates will be a challenging one.
Despite including some new faces and being a new member of the East Coast GRC team himself, Tong highlighted that the PAP team benefits from the established infrastructure and groundwork laid by previous teams. He noted that the PAP doesn't start from scratch, but builds upon the work done in prior terms.
Tong recognized the historical difficulty the PAP has faced in East Coast, expecting this election to be no different. He acknowledged the Workers' Party as a credible party with a strong team, and mentioned his familiarity with Yee Jenn Jong. Tong considers this election potentially his toughest among the four he has contested.
Following Nomination Day, Tong formally introduced his running mates at the PAP headquarters as the ward's anchor minister. His team includes Senior Minister of State Tan Kiat How, Ms Jessica Tan, and new candidates Hazlina Abdul Halim and Dinesh Vasu Dash. The PAP and WP slates for East Coast GRC were both revealed on Nomination Day. The Workers' Party team includes Yee Jenn Jong, his former running mate Nathaniel Koh, and new candidates Jasper Kuan, Sufyan Mikhail Putra, and Paris V Parameswari.
