India Takes Action Against Pakistan Following Terrorist Attack

India has taken action against Pakistan following a recent terrorist attack. The country summoned Pakistan's top diplomat in Delhi and delivered a formal Persona Non Grata note to its military diplomats.

This action was prompted by a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in numerous casualties and injuries. The attack transformed a once peaceful area into a scene of tragedy.

A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was held to address the situation. Key ministers, including the Union Home Minister, Defence Minister, and External Affairs Minister, attended the meeting.

The Ministry of External Affairs briefed the media on the measures decided upon in response to the terrorist attack. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri outlined the key decisions made by the CCS.

The decisions included declaring the Defence/Military, Naval, and Air Advisors in the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi as Persona Non Grata, giving them a week to leave India. India will also withdraw its own Defence/Navy/Air Advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. Additionally, five support staff of the Service Advisors will be withdrawn from both High Commissions.

Furthermore, the Integrated Check Post at Attari will be closed immediately. Those who have crossed over with valid endorsements may return through that route before May 1, 2025.

Other measures include the abeyance of the Indus Waters Treaty until Pakistan renounces its support for cross-border terrorism. Pakistani nationals will also be prohibited from traveling to India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) visas. Any existing SVES visas issued to Pakistani nationals are canceled, and those currently in India under such visas have 48 hours to leave.

The CCS also decided to reduce the overall strength of the High Commissions to 30 from the current 55 by May 1, 2025. The CCS reviewed the overall security situation and directed all forces to maintain high vigil, resolving to bring the perpetrators of the attack and their sponsors to justice.

The SAARC Visa restrictions is a good step as it's essential to safeguard the country from potential terrorists entering through this route.

Great move! It's important to project a firm response, to let those who target us know that they can't just get away with anything.

Closing the Attari border will hurt ordinary people on both sides. Innocent lives shouldn't suffer for political games.

This will simply create more distrust between the two countries.

India acting unilaterally on the Indus Waters Treaty is a dangerous precedent. What if other countries follow suit?
