Pahalgam Terror Attack Spurs Strong Response, Condemnation, and Action Against Pakistan

The nation is united in grief following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam. People across the country are expressing their sorrow, offering condolences, and organizing candlelit vigils to show solidarity with the families of the victims.

The remains of the victims have been transported to their hometowns for their final rites. The body of Indian Air Force Corporal Tage Hailyang arrived at Guwahati Airport early Thursday morning. Corporal Hailyang, a resident of the Ziro area in Arunachal Pradesh, was among the 26 tourists killed in the attack.

Assam Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah and Guwahati City Police Commissioner Dr. Partha Sarathi Mahanta paid their respects to the fallen soldier at the airport. Earlier, the remains of Shailesh Kalthia were brought to Surat, Gujarat, while the remains of Yatish Parmar and his son, Smit Parmar, arrived in Bhavnagar, Gujarat. Union Minister CR Patil and Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi offered tributes to the deceased. In Odisha, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo paid his respects to Prashant Satapathy, another victim of the attack.

The terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday resulted in the deaths of 26 people.

In response to the attack, India announced measures to send a strong message regarding Pakistan's alleged support for cross-border terrorism. These measures include suspending the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 and immediately closing the integrated checkpost at Attari. Additionally, Pakistani nationals will no longer be permitted to travel to India under the SAARC visa exemption scheme.

A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was held to address the situation. The CCS was briefed on the details of the attack and condemned it, expressing condolences to the victims' families and wishing for the injured's swift recovery. The meeting also discussed the cross-border connections of the attack.

The families of the victims are mourning their loss and urging the government to take decisive action against those responsible for the heinous crime. The attack, which occurred at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, is one of the deadliest in the region since the 2019 Pulwama strike. It is also considered one of the largest terror attacks in the area since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

Is closing a checkpost really going to stop terrorism? Just more smoke and mirrors!

Ministerial visits to the airport are a mere performative act. It won’t help the grieving families.

Hats off to those who are coming forward to pay their respects. This unity is what we need right now.

Vigils and condolences won't bring the victims back. We need real action instead of empty words!
