Indian Army Recovers Arms and Ammunition in Baramulla Following Terrorist Attack

The Indian Army's Chinar Corps announced on social media the successful recovery of various arms and ammunition in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. Among the items seized were two AK Series rifles, five magazines, a pistol, ten kilograms of RCIEDs, and other military supplies. The military's tweet indicated that efforts were underway to determine the identities of the terrorists involved.

The operations in Baramulla were initiated as part of the security forces’ response to the devastating terrorist attack that occurred in Pahalgam, resulting in the deaths of 26 individuals. In a detailed briefing, Brigadier Mayank Shukla, who leads the 161 Infantry Brigade, described how they conducted a counter-infiltration mission on the night of April 22. Authorities received intelligence about the movement of Pakistani terrorists in the Uri sector, leading to heightened surveillance and tracking near the Line of Control (LOC).

During the operation, which began in the early hours of April 23, security personnel ambushed and neutralized two terrorists after a lengthy firefight lasting approximately two hours. This encounter resulted in the recovery of significant weaponry, including two AK rifles, a Chinese-made 9mm pistol, additional magazines, and a substantial amount of ammunition. The operation also involved extensive searches of the surrounding forested areas, with the Jammu and Kashmir police working to establish the identities of the deceased terrorists. The distressing context of these military efforts underscores the urgent need for enhanced security in light of recent violence in the region.
