On Tuesday, the Japanese government announced that former Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will travel to Indonesia and Malaysia from May 3rd to 7th. He will be acting as a special envoy for Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
During his visit, Kishida is scheduled to hold discussions with the leaders of both Southeast Asian countries. The primary focus of these meetings will be on advancing the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) initiative. This platform, proposed by Kishida in 2022, aims to strengthen regional collaboration in efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
Accompanying Kishida on this trip will be a delegation of lawmakers from the ruling Liberal Democratic Party. These individuals are members of a group dedicated to promoting the AZEC initiative. Kishida himself assumed the role of supreme advisor to this group in December.
