Family of Accused Teen Moved for Safety Amid Threats After Fatal Stabbing Incident

The family of Karmelo Anthony, a 17-year-old who is facing murder charges for the stabbing death of Austin Metcalf at a Texas track meet, has expressed serious concerns for his safety. Due to ongoing threats, they have relocated him to a secure, undisclosed location to protect him after being put on house arrest following a bond reduction.

According to representatives from Next Generation Action Network (NGAN), a civil rights organization assisting Anthony’s family, there has been a disturbing rise in threatening behavior directed at them. Such harassment includes individuals loitering outside their home, taking photos, pretending to deliver food, and sending menacing letters, indicating a climate of fear and intimidation surrounding the family.

The fatal incident took place during a dispute over seating at a high school track event, which has since received extensive attention from conservative media outlets. Some commentators have used the situation to promote racially charged narratives, with tweets urging severe repercussions for Anthony and broad generalizations about young Black men.

Additionally, a protest against Anthony was organized at Kuykendall Stadium, promoting slogans that reflect a racial agenda and demanding his return to custody before trial. The involvement of controversial figures, like Jake Lang, has intensified the discourse, drawing attention to accusations of racial baiting and further highlighting the division within the community surrounding the incident.
