A Washington handyman, Jeffrey Zizz, has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, and unlawful disposal of human remains. The charges relate to the death of 82-year-old Marcia Norman. Zizz had previously pleaded guilty to molesting his own daughter.
Norman was last seen by her family on April 1st and reported missing shortly thereafter. During the investigation, authorities learned she had dinner with Zizz, her handyman, on the same day. Evidence at Norman's home suggested she had left abruptly. Zizz allegedly fled the state using a friend's truck but was apprehended in Montana on April 6th.
Neighbors reported that Zizz had constructed a shed on a property in Olympia the day after Norman was reported missing. On April 9th, the Thurston County Sheriff's Office excavated the ground beneath the shed, uncovering human remains partially encased in concrete. The remains were identified as those of Marcia Norman.
Following his arrest in Montana, Zizz was extradited to Washington. He was initially held on child molestation-related charges, but has since been charged in connection with Norman's death. Investigators have revealed that Zizz is a military veteran and father of five children. He was also formerly a pastor at a church in Lacey, Washington, but was fired in 2019 after confessing to sexual misconduct.
In October 2022, Zizz pleaded guilty to three charges, including one of molestation. He was sentenced to jail but released after 11 months. Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders described the case as "one of the more disturbing" they've encountered. Norman's family expressed their grief, describing her as a vibrant and engaged member of the community.

Though it’s far too late for Marcia, I hope her story sparks change in how we treat offenders like Zizz.
