On Monday, the Chinese government issued a warning directed at other countries, advising them against striking trade agreements with the United States that would disadvantage China. The remarks come as nations such as Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea have started dialogues with Washington following President Donald Trump's declaration of significant tariffs aimed at nearly all of America's trading partners on April 2. Although these import taxes were largely put on hold after a market response, Trump's tariffs against China remained high and were escalated.
The statement from China's Commerce Ministry reiterated its strong opposition to any negotiations that prioritize another party's benefits at the expense of China's interests. The ministry made it clear that if such deals occur, China would not accept them and would retaliate accordingly. They underscored that China is resolute and capable of safeguarding its rights and interests in the global trade landscape.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had earlier suggested that countries engaging in trade negotiations with the U.S. should collectively approach China alongside Washington. The Chinese ministry characterized U.S. tariffs against other nations as a form of economic coercion, arguing that "appeasement cannot bring peace" and that compromising the interests of others for temporary gains would ultimately lead to failure.
While China has indicated its willingness to engage in discussions with the United States, no formal meetings have been scheduled as of yet. Trump’s punitive tariffs on Chinese goods have escalated to an overall duty of 145%, prompting China to respond with its own tariffs of 125% on American imports. These tariffs have created uncertainty for exporters and have impacted shipments, leading to concerns about a potential slow-down in the global economy.

Good for China! They are not backing down in the face of economic coercion. Respect for their resolve.

Look at the US's history, it always seeks to dominate! China's warning makes a lot of sense.
