An alarming event transpired at the Dwarka court on April 2 involving a convicted individual and his lawyer, who allegedly issued death threats to the presiding judge following a ruling in a cheque bounce case. The convict, a 63-year-old retired government teacher, expressed outrage after receiving a sentence of 22 months imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 6,65,000, leading to intimidating remarks directed at the female judge.
During the incident, the judge, Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Shivangi Mangla, announced the verdict, at which point the convict became verbally aggressive, questioning the legitimacy of the sentencing and making derogatory comments. It was noted that he showed further hostility by holding an object and attempting to throw it at the judge, accompanied by harassing remarks alongside his lawyer.
The intimidating behavior continued as both the convict and his attorney pressured the judge to resign and attempted to coerce an acquittal for the convict, even threatening to lodge complaints if their demands were not met. In response to these actions, the judge referred the matter to the Principal District and Sessions Judge for potential proceedings in the High Court, while stating her intention to report the convict's conduct to the National Commission for Women.
While the convict's representative argued for leniency due to the convict's age and family circumstances—stressing that he has three unemployed sons who depend on him—the court maintained its decision, ultimately imposing both the prison sentence and fine on the convict. Amidst these proceedings, the convict was granted bail to appeal the judgment to a higher court.

The law should apply equally, regardless of family situation. The decision was justified.

How can anyone think it's okay to intimidate a judge? This convict deserves even harsher punishment!

The conduct of the convict and his lawyer is shameful. They should face additional charges for this!

I support the decision of the court. Rules are rules, and they must apply to everyone, regardless of age.

It’s shocking to see someone act so violently just because they didn’t get their way. Justice shouldn't bend for threats!

This is beyond unacceptable! A judge should never be threatened for doing her job! Disgraceful behavior.

A 22-month sentence and a fine? That's not enough for making death threats! This is an insult to the justice system.

Justice is blind to age and circumstances. The law must treat everyone equally!
