Former Biden Aide Urges Couple to Steer Clear of Politics for Party's Benefit

Michael LaRosa, who previously worked as Jill Biden’s communications director, has expressed profound concerns about the former first couple's involvement in politics. He cautioned both Joe and Jill Biden to refrain from political engagements for the good of the Democratic Party. LaRosa suggested that if the Bidens had advisors attuned to the current political climate, they would recognize ongoing resentment and apathy towards them within the party, which shows no signs of diminishing.

In a recent discussion with The Hill, LaRosa shared his thoughts on Joe Biden's re-emergence in public life, especially after a speech criticizing the Trump administration. He noted that the timing of Biden's return could distract from critical issues facing President Trump, particularly in light of the scrutiny Trump faced regarding his trade policies. Despite the potential advantages, LaRosa remarked that Biden's appearance produced minimal impact on the news cycle, instead offering an opportunity for Trump's supporters to reignite criticism against the former president.

LaRosa acknowledged the low popularity of both Joe Biden and Donald Trump, with polling reflecting Biden's net favorability rating at -19 points, in contrast to Trump's -6 points. He emphasized the “heartbreaking and tragic ending” to the Bidens' political careers and indicated that they should consider these harsh political realities when making decisions about their future.

During a recent address, Biden focused on issues surrounding Social Security and Medicaid, warning against Republican threats to these essential programs. His comments were made as Democrats strive to recover from a significant electoral defeat, which not only saw Republicans regain the presidency but also take control of the Senate. Additionally, YouGov's polling data highlighted that former President Barack Obama enjoys considerable popularity, suggesting that figures like him, Bernie Sanders, and others maintain favorable ratings among the public, while several notable politicians, including Mitch McConnell and Chuck Schumer, fare poorly.

LaRosa’s advice can be damaging. Democratic unity should come first, especially with the Republican threat looming.

The suggestion to step back is laughable. Joe Biden has fought hard for Democratic principles, and that shouldn’t stop now!”

LaRosa's comments come off as self-serving. The Bidens still have supporters who believe in their vision!

The idea that the Bidens can continue to have influence in this political climate is misguided—better to step aside.

It's absurd to think that the Bidens should step back from politics. They have much to offer, especially on social security!
