A small aircraft crashed into a field in Trilla, Illinois, resulting in four fatalities. The incident occurred on Saturday morning, approximately 200 miles south of Chicago, as reported by the Illinois State Police.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) confirmed that the single-engine Cessna 180 struck power lines before crashing. Debris from the plane was scattered along County Line Road.
The Coles County Coroner announced that two men and two women were aboard the aircraft. Their identities have not yet been released to the public.
Federal aviation authorities, including the FAA and NTSB, are investigating the cause of the crash. An NTSB investigator was scheduled to arrive at the scene on Sunday. The wreckage will be moved to a secure location for further examination, and a preliminary NTSB report is expected within 30 days.
A local resident, Kynnedi Goldstein, described hearing a loud noise and witnessing smoke. She reported that the power briefly went out before a generator activated. She then went to the scene with a friend.
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker stated that he was closely following the situation and offered his thoughts to those affected by the tragedy. He also expressed gratitude to the first responders who arrived at the scene.

Where were the safety measures? It's infuriating that these crashes keep happening with no accountability.

Isn't it time we ask why these small planes are allowed to operate in populated areas?
