A tragic incident occurred on the M6 motorway near Lancaster. A van veered off the road and collided with a tree, resulting in the death of a 14-year-old boy.
The accident happened on the southbound carriageway between junctions 34 and 33. Emergency services were alerted to the scene shortly after 12:15 pm on Sunday. The young passenger was pronounced dead at the site of the crash.
The driver of the van, a man in his 30s and the boy's father, sustained serious injuries. He was transported to a hospital where he is currently receiving treatment. No other vehicles were involved in the collision.
The incident necessitated the closure of both the northbound and southbound lanes of the motorway between the specified junctions. The northbound carriageway was reopened around 2 pm, while the southbound lane reopened at 8 pm.
Authorities are appealing for information regarding the crash. Sergeant Martin Wilcock expressed his condolences to the family and urged anyone who witnessed the event, or who may have relevant dashcam or mobile phone footage, to contact the police. They are also seeking information from anyone who observed the van prior to the collision.

It’s tragic, but I can’t help but think about the lack of highway safety measures. More needs to be done!
