In a standout performance, Kodai Senga of the New York Mets achieved his third straight win by leading his team to a 3-0 triumph against the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday. Senga, the Japanese pitcher, delivered an impressive 5-2/3 innings, allowing only three hits while striking out four batters and walking two, which helped lower his earned run average to an impressive 0.79.
Senga's season began with a challenging first start where he allowed four runs, two of which were earned. However, he has since demonstrated remarkable form, throwing 18-2/3 consecutive scoreless innings after that initial outing. Although the Cardinals posed threats with runners in scoring position during the second and fifth innings, Senga utilized his signature forkball to secure strikeouts when his team needed them the most.
In the sixth inning, relief pitcher Reed Garrett took over for Senga with runners at the corners and successfully got Alec Burleson to ground out, closing the inning. Senga credited catcher Luis Torrens for his support during the game, acknowledging the positive impact on his performance. Despite his success, Senga expressed some ongoing challenges with his pitches, noting a discrepancy between the way he envisions his pitches and their actual execution.
In other MLB action featuring Japanese players, Seiya Suzuki from the Chicago Cubs shone by hitting his sixth home run of the season, a two-run blast, in a 6-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Meanwhile, Los Angeles Dodgers rookie pitcher Roki Sasaki ended his game with a no-decision, pitching six strong innings in a close 4-3 loss to the Texas Rangers, where a ninth-inning walk-off home run sealed the game for Texas. Additionally, Shohei Ohtani is expected to return to the Dodgers after missing consecutive games on paternity leave following the birth of his daughter.

Really happy for him! It’s great to see his hard work translating into wins and such low ERAs. Go Senga!

Is it just me, or does Senga seem to struggle under pressure? Those runners in scoring position are concerning.

Is he really that good, or do we just love a good story? The hype feels unwarranted given his shaky start.

Why is everyone ignoring the fact that it was the Cardinals? They’ve been struggling this season. Let’s see him shine against top teams.

Way too much praise for a guy who walked two batters. Control issues are a big deal in MLB.

He might be a star now but let’s not forget how it can all change in just one game. Stay humble, Mets fans.
