A young child is currently in the hospital following a dog attack in Stockton, County Durham. Police responded to a call at a residence on Chopwell Close in the Hardwick area of Stockton this afternoon. The report indicated that a child had been attacked by a dog.
Upon arrival, officers secured the dog without causing it any harm and removed it from the property. The dog has been taken to a specialized kennel. The injured child was transported to the hospital to receive treatment for injuries to their head and arm. Fortunately, the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Photographs taken at the scene show several police vehicles parked along a residential street, with officers present. An ambulance service spokesperson confirmed that they were called to the scene but were not required to provide assistance, as the patient had already been taken to the hospital.
The breed of the dog involved has not yet been officially confirmed, although some witnesses have reported seeing a Pitbull-cross. Local sources suggest the child is approximately two or three years old, but this information has not been verified by the police.
A witness reported that the dog bit the child's arm and scalp. Police are still investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Cleveland Police.

Secured the dog without causing it any harm"?! Seriously? After attacking a child? The dog's safety seems to be prioritized over the child's.

This is a terrible event, but at least the child is receiving the medical attention they need.

Pitbull-cross... probably. Sigh. Why are these dogs even allowed in residential areas?

It's good the police are appealing for information. Hopefully, witnesses can provide more details.

The child's health must be paid attention and dogs are prevented from being in residential places

Not life-threatening" is a small comfort. Imagine the trauma the child will experience.

Another dog attack. When will we take dangerous dog breeds seriously and protect our children?
