The Constitutional Court of South Korea announced on Monday its decision to reject the parliament's motion to impeach Prime Minister Han Duck-soo. The court's ruling immediately reinstated Han as prime minister. He also resumed his duties as acting president.
The court's decision was reached by a vote of the nine-member bench. Five justices voted to reject the impeachment motion, while one supported it. The remaining two justices favored dismissal.
The impeachment motion against Prime Minister Han had been approved by the opposition-controlled National Assembly on December 27th of the previous year. This followed the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol on December 14th.
Following the impeachments of both the president and prime minister, Choi Sang-mok, the economy and finance minister, assumed the role of acting president. He also serves as the deputy prime minister for economic affairs.

Good. I prefer a functioning government rather than political games.

How can they reinstate someone after they were impeached? This sets a dangerous precedent.

This decision undermines the democratic process. Feels like a power grab.

Five votes? Doesn't seem like a resounding endorsement of his actions. Smells fishy to me.

Glad to see the Court maintained its integrity. The facts clearly didn't support the impeachment.

Unbelievable! The court is clearly protecting the corrupt. This is a travesty of justice!
