On Tuesday, Chinese coast guard officials reported that a Philippine vessel had harassed one of their ships while patrolling near Huangyan Dao. According to the China Coast Guard (CCG), the Philippine vessel attempted to create a false narrative through staged photographs.
The CCG stated that the Philippine coast guard ship 4409 had dangerously approached the Chinese vessel Zhongnan on Monday morning. The Philippine ship reportedly crossed close to the bow of the Chinese vessel on four separate occasions. After the CCG issued warnings and took regulatory measures, the Philippine vessel was eventually driven away.
The Chinese authorities further stated that the Philippine side subsequently misrepresented the events, using media outlets to amplify their version of the incident. The CCG asserted that the actions of the Philippine vessel violated international law and maritime safety regulations.
The CCG emphasized that the Philippine ship's dangerous approach to the Chinese vessel, which was conducting a lawful mission, endangered the safety of Chinese personnel and the ship itself. The CCG maintained that its response was both professional and lawful.
Finally, the CCG declared its commitment to firmly address any provocations by Philippine vessels, with the aim of protecting China's sovereignty and maritime interests.

Dangerous approach or not, this is just another example of China trying to bully its neighbors.

It’s ironic that a country with a history of territorial disputes is claiming sovereignty over contested areas.

CCG's statement reeks of propaganda! This isn’t about safety; it’s about dominance.

Glad to see the CCG taking a stand against provocations in the region. Sovereignty matters!

The CCG's version of events seems rehearsed. Why should we believe them?

I support China’s commitment to ensure maritime safety. Other nations should follow suit!
