The Chinese diving team continued its strong performance at the World Aquatics Diving World Cup 2025 in Guadalajara, Mexico, securing all four gold medals available on Saturday and adding a silver to their collection on the third day of competition.
In the women's 10m platform final, Chen Yuxi emerged victorious, narrowly defeating teammate Quan Hongchan. men's synchronized 3m springboard, women's synchronized 10m platform, women's 3m springboard, and men's 10m platform. This event marks China's first major international competition of the year and the first since the retirement of long-time diving team leader Zhou Jihong.
A Beijing-based sports commentator noted the Chinese diving team's reliance on a rigorous training system, which contributes to the success of its athletes. The commentator highlighted the natural changes occurring within the team, including the breaking up of the high-profile women's 10m synchronized platform pair, Chen Yuxi and Quan Hongchan. The new partnership features Zhang Minjie and Lu Wei.
While the decision to split Chen and Quan has drawn attention, the commentator emphasized the overall strength of the national team, suggesting that it may allow both athletes to focus on individual events and foster the development of new synchronized pairs. This period is seen as a preparatory phase for the next Olympics, with different combinations being tested and opportunities for younger divers to gain experience. The commentator also noted that other countries may be undergoing similar changes. The diving circuit will move to Beijing for the World Aquatics Diving World Cup 2025 Super Final.
