Cameron Green celebrated his comeback from surgery by scoring a century for English county Gloucestershire, although he left the field shortly after due to cramping issues. After completing his 171-ball century with a quick single, both his batting partner and the umpire helped him stretch his legs before he exited the field.
This was Green’s first match since experiencing discomfort after an ODI in England last September, which led to him undergoing back surgery a month later for a stress fracture—the fifth of his career. However, he reassured everyone that he would be able to continue his innings on the second day after a good night’s rest and some food.
Green expressed immense pride in his achievement of becoming the tenth player to score a first-class hundred on debut for Gloucestershire. After eight months away from competitive cricket, returning to the pitch felt incredibly special for him, especially as he aims to build his match fitness in preparation for the World Test Championship final at Lord’s in June.
In his match debut, Green entered as his new county was struggling at 3-41 against Kent, with fellow Australian Cameron Bancroft already dismissed for just two runs. He partnered with Miles Hammond to score 67 runs at a rate of four an over, before forming a significant partnership with James Bracey. The duo added 167 runs together until Green's exit after batting for over four hours.
Bracey continued after Green’s departure, finishing with an impressive 109 not out by the end of the day, leading Gloucestershire to a total of 365 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Meanwhile, Kent faced challenges with the loss of bowler Grant Stewart, who had to exit the game after just over six overs.

He might be a tenth player to score a hundred, but he’s certainly the first to leave due to cramps.

Nice to see him score, but it feels more like a ticking time bomb. When will he break down again?
