Canadian hockey enthusiasts can look forward to the upcoming federal election without missing any of the exciting post-season action. The NHL has released its first-round playoff schedule, ensuring no Canadian teams will be playing on April 28th, the day of the election.
Two games are scheduled for election day. Florida will host Tampa Bay for Game 4 of their first-round series, while Dallas will host Colorado for a potential Game 5, if necessary.
The Montreal Canadiens' pursuit of a playoff spot has already influenced the election's preparations. The French-language leaders debate was moved up an hour to avoid a conflict with Montreal's playoff-clinching victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Winnipeg Jets, winners of the Presidents' Trophy, will initiate the Canadian portion of the NHL playoff games. They will begin their first-round series against the St. Louis Blues at home on Saturday, with Game 2 at Canada Life Centre on Monday. If needed, Game 5 will be on April 30 in Winnipeg, Game 6 in St. Louis on May 2, and Game 7 on May 4 in Winnipeg.
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators will commence their Battle of Ontario on Sunday night in Toronto. If necessary, Game 5 will be on April 29 in Toronto, Game 6 in Ottawa on May 1, and Game 7 in Toronto on May 3.
The Edmonton Oilers will begin their first-round matchup against the Kings in Los Angeles on Monday. The Oilers will return home for Games 3 and 4 on April 25 and 27. Game 5 will be in L.A. on April 29, Game 6 in Edmonton on May 1, and Game 7 on May 3 in L.A.
The Montreal Canadiens will play their first post-season game since 2021 when they visit the Washington Capitals on Monday. Montreal will host Games 3 and 4 on April 25 and 27, with Game 5 on April 30, Game 6 in Montreal on May 2, and Game 7 on May 4.

Are we seriously letting the Leafs and Senators dictate our election calendar?

So, important hockey games trump my right to vote on election day? Sounds about right.

Guess the NHL really wants those sweet, sweet TV viewers.

where curling and election day have a more contentious relationship than the NHL ever will.
