Toronto FC's coach, Robin Fraser, is hoping his team will finally be rewarded for their recent improved play as they seek their first win of the season against Real Salt Lake on Saturday. Fraser expressed the eagerness to secure that initial victory, highlighting the relief it brings and the growing pressure that comes with each winless game. He humorously described the situation, comparing the weight of the winless streak to a growing "gorilla" on their backs.
Toronto, along with CF Montreal and the defending champion Los Angeles Galaxy, are the only teams in the MLS without a win this season. The upcoming match against Salt Lake presents a challenge, given Toronto's poor record there. They have only won once in Utah, and that was at a different stadium.
Real Salt Lake also aims to improve their standing, currently sitting in tenth place in the Western Conference after recent losses. Fraser acknowledges the positives in Toronto's recent draws against strong opponents, emphasizing the team's effort and mentality. He expressed disappointment for his players, recognizing their hard work and the frustration of not yet securing a win. Fraser believes a victory would validate their efforts and motivate them further.
Toronto's last league victory was in September, and they haven't won away from home in approximately eight months. The trip to Utah marks a return for Fraser, who previously worked with Real Salt Lake. Meanwhile, Salt Lake's coach, Pablo Mastroeni, is approaching his 100th coaching win. Fraser acknowledges Mastroeni's ability to instill his personality in his teams.
Real Salt Lake will be looking for points at America First Field with six of its next eight games on the road. U.S. international Diego Luna is in good form for RSL, and Fraser considers him a key player in their attack. Goalkeeper Rafael Cabral and defender Justen Glad have played every minute of RSL's league games this season.
Toronto hopes to have some players return from injury, with defenders Nicksoen Gomis and forward Ola Brynhildsen potentially rejoining the squad. However, several players remain out due to injuries. Real Salt Lake defender Javain Brown recently underwent knee surgery. Additionally, the Miller family, former owners of the Utah Jazz, has acquired controlling interest in RSL Football Holdings.

Only one win in Utah? That's a damning stat. They should be worried, not hopeful.

Toronto FC's struggles are embarrassing. Can’t they find a way to win already?
