Brady Tkachuk has announced that he is ready to return to action. The captain of the Ottawa Senators had been sidelined for eight consecutive games because of an upper-body injury but made his comeback during the regular-season finale against the Carolina Hurricanes. However, he did not finish the game, sitting out the third period after taking a stick to the face. Tkachuk confirmed that this was merely a precaution and expressed optimism about being ready for the upcoming playoff opener on Sunday in Toronto.
The Senators, with a record of 45 wins, 30 losses, and 7 overtime losses, secured the first wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference and are entering the playoffs for the first time in eight years. Tkachuk hasn't played since March 30 and was eager to get back on the ice for some game-time experience. He noted, “I haven’t played in two and a half weeks,” emphasizing the importance of getting his timing back and acquiring power-play practice before the playoffs.
Though he acknowledged that it took him a few shifts to regain his rhythm, Tkachuk felt increasingly better as the game progressed. With 29 goals this season, he leads the Senators and ranks fourth in team points with a total of 55. Ottawa performed admirably in his absence, achieving a record of 5 wins, 2 losses, and 1 overtime loss.
Teammate Tim Stutzle praised Tkachuk's consistent dedication, referencing his strong performance in the recent Four Nations Face-Off tournament. The players believe Tkachuk will play a crucial role in their playoff success, especially given his history of overcoming challenges throughout the season. As Tkachuk gears up for his first playoff appearance at the age of 25, he reflected on the lengthy wait the team has endured, stating, "It was seven long years, but you know, it feels good getting into it.

Taking a stick to the face and sitting out the third period? Not exactly inspiring confidence for a playoff run.
