China is advocating for the international community to utilize various platforms, including the United Nations Security Council, to discuss and gain a deeper understanding of the detrimental effects of unilateralism and bullying tactics. This was stated by Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian.
Lin's comments followed reports that China plans to convene an informal UNSC meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to address concerns regarding the United States' actions, specifically criticizing the US for what China perceives as bullying behavior and its negative impact on global peace and development through the use of tariffs.
At a daily news conference, Lin highlighted the recent actions of the US. He noted that the US has disregarded the outcomes of multilateral trade negotiations and has misused tariffs under the guise of "reciprocity and fairness." These actions, according to Lin, are significantly damaging to the global economic order and the multilateral trading system. They also undermine the interests of various nations and present unprecedented challenges to the UN and the principles of multilateralism.
China supports the international community's efforts to reaffirm its commitment to multilateralism and the principles of the UN Charter. The goal is to build consensus on strengthening the role of the UN and protecting the legitimate rights of all countries to development.
Lin also mentioned a recent meeting in Moscow, attended by representatives from China, Russia, Venezuela, Cuba, Iran, and other nations. This meeting, organized by the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter, conveyed a clear message of support for multilateralism and opposition to unilateral actions, coercive measures, and economic bullying. It also demonstrated the determination of countries, particularly those in the Global South, to stand united against external pressure.
Lin urged the United States to heed the international community's call for justice and to avoid further actions that perpetuate unilateralism and bullying.

It's about time someone stood up to the US bullying! We need more multilateral discussions like this.

Let’s not pretend that China is a champion of global cooperation. Their behavior tells a different story.

I fully support China’s position; unilateralism disrupts global peace. We must work together for true development.

This sounds like a desperate attempt from China to align countries against the US when their own economy is shaky.

China should focus on its own internal issues rather than pointing fingers at the US.

This meeting feels like a ploy for China to gain political capital while ignoring their own issues with human rights and trade violations.

Criticizing the US while ignoring South China Sea conflicts is a classic case of double standards from China.
