Xi Jinping Advocates for a Shared Future Between China and Cambodia

During a meeting on Thursday, Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed his belief that establishing a community between China and Cambodia with a shared future is a historical and popular choice. He met with Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People's Party, and acknowledged the close friendship and neighborly relations between the two nations, especially at this pivotal moment in their respective development journeys.

Xi urged both countries to prioritize the welfare of their people while pursuing modernization efforts, aiming to set a global example in their collaborative endeavors. He stated that China's unwavering support for Cambodia would enhance its role in regional and international matters, contributing to national stability and economic growth.

The Chinese president proposed leveraging the newly formed "2+2" strategic dialogue mechanism to bolster cooperation between their foreign and defense ministers. He stressed the importance of deepening partnerships in varied sectors such as energy, transportation, and infrastructure, specifically referencing projects like Cambodia's Industrial and Technological Corridor and Fish and Rice Corridor, which would enable Cambodia to benefit from China's development.

Additionally, Xi emphasized the value of mutual exchanges between China and Cambodia on significant issues, aimed at strengthening party-building and reforms. He firmly rejected unilateralism and hegemonic practices, asserting that the desire for a multipolar world, economic globalization, and cultural diversity is undeniable among nations.

Xi criticized trade conflicts, which he believes undermine the multilateral trading system and disturb the global economic framework. He urged nations to unite, maintain security and developmental autonomy, respect one another, and work toward mutual growth and a shared future.

As Asia moves forward on its path to revitalization, Xi reiterated China's commitment to friendly and inclusive diplomatic relations with its neighbors. By sustaining stable neighborhood diplomacy and fostering cooperation, China aspires to distribute the advantages of its modernization more broadly across the region, facilitating the development of a community with a shared future alongside its neighboring countries.
