Bilbao Blasts Past Rangers, Eyes Europa League Semi-Final Glory

The return leg began with a high tempo, despite the initial 0-0 draw in the first leg at Ibrox. Rangers showed resilience against the energetic atmosphere at San Mames, where a record crowd of 52,114 spectators were present. Bilbao had an early opportunity, but their initial efforts were thwarted by Rangers' goalkeeper, Liam Kelly, and the defense.

Rangers' forward, Cyriel Dessers, appealed for a penalty, but his claim was denied. Bilbao struggled to find precision in their attacks, with several missed chances. However, Bilbao's midfielder, Oihan Sancet, eventually broke the deadlock by converting a penalty in added time before the break.

In the second half, Bilbao aimed to extend their lead, but Rangers came close to equalizing. Rangers grew in confidence, putting pressure on the hosts, but they couldn't find the back of the net. Bilbao capitalized on the opportunity, with Oscar de Marcos's cross finding Nico Williams, who scored a header. The final minutes were filled with celebrations.

Bilbao, who recently ended a long trophy drought by winning the Copa del Rey, are now aiming for their first European title. They will face Manchester United in the semi-finals.
