In a recent legal filing, the Justice Department contended that disgraced former Representative George Santos is devoid of remorse regarding his fraudulent actions. With his sentencing set for April 25, Santos’s social media activity has been marked by an aggressive tone, particularly since he began posting on April 4. In these messages, he expresses defiance against the DOJ, claiming they cannot diminish his spirit, and he has also criticized the agency’s decision to indict him while suggesting that there are more significant issues within the government involving pedophilia.
The Justice Department pointed out that Santos's online statements reflect a lack of genuine remorse and instead project a sense of victimhood, accusing the federal government of being part of a sinister conspiracy. Santos, who pleaded guilty in August to serious charges, including fraud and identity theft, faces a substantial sentence that prosecutors are recommending be set at seven years. His short tenure as representative for New York's 3rd Congressional District ended when he was expelled by his peers, marking barely a year in office.
Furthermore, the DOJ highlighted Santos's continued refusal to acknowledge aspects of his behavior that relate directly to the charges he accepted guilt for. In particular, they noted his denial of misusing campaign funds for luxury purchases, despite evidence to the contrary, emphasizing that he still does not take full accountability for his actions. Santos, however, took to social media to respond to the Justice Department's filing, labeling it as an oversreach and expressing his grievances against the DOJ.

This guy is a master of deflection. Everything's everyone else's fault.

The accusations are overblown. Sounds like a vendetta. He did make some mistakes, but they're trying to make him out to be a villain.

This case smells fishy. The government is trying to hide something.

Maybe he's pointing out genuine issues within the government. Not all villains are created equal.

I'm glad he's standing up to them! He deserves a fair trial.

Everyone makes mistakes. Let's not crucify him.
