A tragic accident occurred on Thursday afternoon when a helicopter, identified as a Bell 206, crashed into the Hudson River off Pier 40 in Manhattan. New York City Mayor Eric Adams confirmed during a press conference that all six occupants, comprising one pilot, two adults, and three children, lost their lives. According to Jessica Tisch, the commissioner of the New York City Police Department, four individuals were declared dead at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.
The helicopter reportedly lost control shortly after executing a turn at the George Washington Bridge while heading toward the New Jersey shoreline. Local media reported that the aircraft split into two parts before descending into the river around 3:15 p.m. The passengers were said to be tourists visiting from Spain. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances that led to this unfortunate incident, which marks the deadliest helicopter tragedy in the New York City area since 2018.
