On Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian addressed concerns regarding potential US tariffs. He stated that if the US were to disregard the interests of both China and the international community by initiating a tariff war or trade war, China would respond decisively.
Lin Jian emphasized that the US's use of tariffs is a violation of the legitimate rights and interests of all nations. He further stated that such actions breach World Trade Organization (WTO) rules, undermine the multilateral trading system, and destabilize the global economy. He characterized this as a clear example of unilateralism, protectionism, and economic bullying, which has garnered significant international opposition.
The spokesperson strongly condemned and resolutely opposed these actions. Lin Jian highlighted that trade wars and tariff wars benefit no one and that protectionism is ultimately unproductive. He stressed that China does not seek conflict but will not be intimidated. He concluded by stating that China would take necessary measures to firmly protect its own legitimate rights and interests.
In response to a question about potential countermeasures, Lin Jian reiterated that China's legitimate rights cannot be violated, and its sovereignty, security, and development interests are inviolable. He affirmed that China would continue to implement resolute and strong measures to safeguard these interests.

It's time to hold China accountable for its trade strategies rather than let them intimidate.

A trade war will only result in economic pain for ordinary people. It's time for dialogue.

China is right to defend its interests. Trade wars only hurt everyone involved.
