Meng Fanqi of China competed in the biathlon women's 4x6km relay at the 9th Asian Winter Games held in Yabuli, Heilongjiang Province, China, on February 13, 2025.
In the women's relay, Meng Fanqi's impressive final leg performance secured the victory for China. The Chinese team, comprised of Tang Jialin, Wen Ying, Chu Yuanmeng, and Meng, had faced challenges in the initial stages, finding themselves in third place before the final exchange. Meng's exceptional skiing and shooting skills allowed her to overcome the deficit and clinch the win with a time of one hour, 29 minutes, and 6.3 seconds.
Meng expressed the pressure she felt during the final leg, emphasizing her determination to give her best effort regardless of the outcome. She attributed her performance to exceeding her usual skiing and shooting abilities, and acknowledged the role of luck. South Korea took the silver medal, finishing 21 seconds behind China, while Kazakhstan secured the bronze.
In the men's 4x7.5km relay, Japan and China were closely matched until the final leg. However, China's Gu Cang made several shooting errors, allowing Japan to take the lead and win the gold medal with a time of one hour, 24 minutes, and 20.3 seconds. Kazakhstan also surpassed China to claim the silver, leaving China with the bronze medal in a time of 1:25:32.7.

This event was held in China—was it really a fair competition with home ground advantage?

It’s just a small win. Are we really going to celebrate when they couldn’t even secure gold in the men's relay?

Meng's comments about luck make me question the reliability of such victories. Isn’t that problematic?

It’s great that Meng won, but I think we should focus more on the fact that China has a history of dominated sports through state support.

I'm tired of media hype around individual performances; it often overshadows the team’s struggles.
