At the 2025 International Defense Exhibition and Conference (IDEX 2025) in Abu Dhabi, various aviation products from China, such as fighter jets, drones, and transport aircraft, are being showcased. Notable displays include the FC-31 stealth fighter and the J-10CE fighter jet, alongside a range of engines and other aviation technology offered by the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) through its subsidiary, the China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation (CATIC).
The event highlights China's advanced fourth- and fifth-generation fighter jets, appealing to Middle Eastern nations seeking state-of-the-art technology. According to Wang Ya'nan, chief editor of Aerospace Knowledge magazine, the region's increasing need for alternatives to traditional US and European defense suppliers is evident, especially given the complexities of obtaining advanced military aircraft like the F-35 due to political relations and regional security interests.
Additionally, the China's J-10 fighter jet has seen extensive domestic use, with its J-10CE variant already exported. The fifth-generation J-35 stealth fighter, related to the FC-31, has also been integrated into China's aviation programs. Furthermore, the Aero Engine Corporation of China (AECC) has introduced key engines, such as the Taihang and AES100, which are positioned as competitive products with high standards of fuel efficiency and combat capability.
Alongside these aviation exhibits, leading Chinese defense firms are presenting a variety of naval equipment, including submarines and unmanned systems, as well as land and space defense products, showcasing the comprehensive capabilities of China's defense industry at this prestigious expo.

Are these Chinese jets really as good as they claim they are? Marketing hype is often a major factor.
