Tank, a well-known singer from Taiwan, recently made headlines after undergoing a groundbreaking medical procedure, becoming the first patient in Asia to receive both a heart and liver transplant concurrently. This complex surgery took place at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine in Hangzhou, East China. Following the operation, Tank took to social media platform Sina Weibo to update his fans, expressing his deep appreciation with the phrase "thanks to my motherland" and highlighting the significant support he received during this challenging time.
The singer’s health had been declining for several years, particularly after he experienced a fainting incident on stage in 2007 due to his hereditary heart condition. Despite initially finding success with his music career, including hits like "Three Kingdom Love," his medical conditions led him to step back from performing. By March 2024, his health reached a critical point, prompting medical evaluations that revealed a range of serious health issues, including hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and decompensated cirrhosis.
Medical experts determined that his only chance for survival would be a simultaneous transplant, as single-organ procedures wouldn't adequately address all of his health issues. After an extensive search, matching donors were found in November 2024, and the medical team swiftly proceeded with the transplant. The surgery was not without complications, as the medical team faced various challenges during his recovery, including managing the balance between immunosuppressive therapies and preventing infections.
