On April 5, Xiaomi Automobile released a statement regarding a serious accident involving its SU7 Standard Edition vehicle, which collided with an electric two-wheeler in Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province. The company clarified that the fire resulting from the incident was caused by the extensive damage and compression of the lithium battery from the electric two-wheeler. The collision occurred in the morning on Provincial Highway 376, and it has been reported that a driver, not the vehicle owner, was behind the wheel during the accident. Following the crash, this driver fled the scene but was apprehended later by police.
In their official statement, Xiaomi expressed sorrow for the victims of the collision. The police reported that two individuals riding the electric two-wheeler were pronounced dead at the scene. After the incident, the driver, identified as a 25-year-old man named Chen, surrendered to authorities and has been arrested on charges related to causing a traffic accident. Investigations are currently ongoing, with definitive conclusions still awaiting a thorough report from the relevant agencies.
This collision follows a previous fatal accident involving a SU7 electric vehicle on March 29, which resulted in three deaths. Reports indicated that that incident was exacerbated by the vehicle doors locking upon impact, leading to a battery fire. Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun has expressed his condolences about the previous crash while stating the company's commitment to fully cooperate with ongoing investigations.

My family was considering an SU7, but after this... no way. The lack of emphasis on safety is too worrying.

battery fires, door issues, and tragic fatalities. Xiaomi's quality control is clearly lacking. Don't put your life at risk!

Lei Jun needs to do more than just express condolences, he needs to make the safety of the people their priority. How many more deaths?

This is not just a tragic coincidence. This is a concerning pattern. Xiaomi needs to re-evaluate its entire vehicle design process.

A driver fleeing the scene in TWO deadly accidents? Are you kidding me?! This is totally unethical!

This whole situation is just heartbreaking. My thoughts are with the families of the victims. Xiaomi has to address the flaws and ensure this never happens again.
