China Rebukes US-Japan Military Cooperation, Issues Taiwan Warning

In response to comments made by US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Guo Jiakun, addressed the issue of US-Japan military security cooperation. Guo stated that such cooperation should not be directed at other nations or undermine regional peace and progress. He accused the US of using the "China threat" narrative to create ideological conflict, division, and even encourage other countries to serve US interests. Regional countries were urged to remain cautious and take preventative measures.

Guo also highlighted the upcoming 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. He emphasized the importance of Japan learning from history and acting carefully on military and security matters.

Regarding the Taiwan question, Guo asserted that it is an internal matter for China, and its resolution is solely the concern of the Chinese people, free from external interference. He called on certain individuals in the US to abandon any plans to use the Taiwan question to contain China and to uphold the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués. He urged the US to fulfill its commitments regarding Taiwan through concrete actions.

Furthermore, Guo addressed Japan's historical role, noting its past aggression and colonial rule over Taiwan. He stated that Japan has a significant historical responsibility to the Chinese people. He urged Japan to adhere to the principles of the four political documents between China and Japan and to exercise caution in its statements and actions concerning the Taiwan question, avoiding any signals that could be interpreted as support for "Taiwan independence" separatist forces.
