In response to the confirmed rise in US tariffs on Chinese exports, which now reach up to 145 percent, Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, reiterated China's position on the matter. He stated that while China does not seek to participate in tariff and trade wars, it is unafraid to confront them if provoked. Lin also highlighted the futility of such conflicts, proclaiming that "tariff and trade wars have no winners."
Lin further emphasized that if the United States genuinely desires to address the ongoing issues through dialogue, it must abandon its aggressive tactics and extreme pressure strategies. He asserted that these approaches are ineffective against China. The spokesperson instructed that any forthcoming dialogue should emerge from a foundation of equality, mutual respect, and reciprocity. He cautioned that if the US continues its trade and tariff aggression, China's response will persist steadfastly. Lin concluded by affirming China’s role as a responsible nation, noting that its countermeasures aim not only to protect its own rights but also to uphold international laws and preserve global equity and justice.

Responsible nation? China has a long way to go before it can claim that label. They should prove it.

The US is just trying to protect its people. This is understandable and, therefore, justified.

If they want dialogue, why haven't they been willing to negotiate in good faith before? Seems like an empty promise.

China's economic policies are based on exploiting cheap labor and taking advantage of lax environmental protection laws. It is not fair.

Equality? How about transparency? China needs to show the world what's really going on with its economy.

They want respect, but they disrespect international norms on a regular basis. Hypocrites.

The real question is how China can respond to these circumstances and solve them. The question shouldn't always be about criticizing tariffs.

China's talk is cheap. Their unfair trade practices are what started this. They need to change, not just talk about 'equality.'
