Trade wars are detrimental, and protectionist policies are unproductive. China calls upon the United States to immediately rescind its unilateral tariff measures and to address trade disagreements through equitable dialogue with its trading partners.
China is prepared to collaborate with nations, including Canada, to firmly uphold multilateralism and the multilateral trading system. The goal is to consistently foster inclusive economic globalization and to preserve the stability of the global trading system.
The United States' announcement on April 2nd of "reciprocal tariffs" on all trading partners, including China, is strongly opposed. China will take necessary actions to protect its legitimate interests.
The imposition of additional tariffs by the US disregards the outcomes of years of multilateral trade negotiations and ignores the significant benefits the US has derived from international trade. The US's "reciprocal tariffs," based on a subjective and one-sided assessment, violate World Trade Organization rules, severely damage the rules-based multilateral trading system, and infringe upon the legitimate rights and interests of involved parties. This is a clear instance of unilateral bullying.

The US is making a mistake by going this route. There's risk in this for every country.

The imposition of tariffs will increase the price of essential goods. It is not fair.

The US should go back and negotiate and find a solution peacefully.

The lack of transparency is ridiculous. This will not resolve the issues between China and the US.

These tariffs just create uncertainty and hurt the global economy. China is doing what it needs to do.

China needs to stop manipulating its currency. Until then, tariffs are the only way to get their attention.
